Dr. Walaa-Eldeen Bakry is the Director of Executive Education at Westminster Business School, University of Westminster. He holds a doctorate in Higher Education Management from the University of Bath and has over 30 years of experience in academia, research, and business consulting. His expertise spans Project Management, Project Finance, Higher Education Management, and Political Economy.
Dr Bakry studied Management Science for his bachelor’s degree before earning a master’s degree in business systems Analysis from City University of London, as a Chevening Scholar. He has held senior academic roles at other English Universities.
A frequent media commentator on economic and public policy issues in the Middle East, he contributes insights on financial systems, governance, and economic reforms. He is a Chartered Fellow of the British Computer Society and a Senior Fellow of the Higher Education Academy and a Member of the Royal Economic Society. His research informs public policy reforms.
is a Visiting Scholar at the Middle East Initiative at Belfer Center, Harvard Kennedy School. He has been a civil society organizer in Egypt since 2006 and was one of the leading youth activists during the 2011 Egyptian revolution.
graduated from Harvard Kennedy School in 2023 with a Master’s in Public Administration. The New York Times, Washington Post, BBC, and numerous other international publications have covered his analyses.
Concurrently, he is an Assistant Professor of Surgery at Cairo University, an appointment that he has held since 2017. He was trained in liver surgery and transplantation at King’s College Hospital, London.
Basem is an experienced program manager with long experience in managing local and international projects and programs. His experience includes working with the Royal Institute of International Affairs, a leading think tank on international relations based in London;
the Anna Lindh Euro-Mediterranean Foundation, an intergovernmental entity for intercultural relations in the Euro-Mediterranean region; in addition to Washington DC office of Freedom House, Cairo office of Friedrich Naumann Foundation, and many other local civil society organizations across the region.
Basem holds an MA in conflict, security, and development from the University of Bradford, United Kingdom and a B.Sc. in Chemistry and Biology from Cairo University.

Mohamed Hussein
Mohamed Hussein is the President and CEO of International Mission for Relief, a humanitarian organization based in Washington DC. He is also the CFO of APVI, Inc. Mohamed is serving on the Board of Directors of a number of NGOs.
Mohamed has over 15 years of experience in executive level in development and relief organizations, corporate and banking sectors.
An Egyptian journalist, researcher, and human rights advocate with a diverse background in investigative journalism, audio storytelling, and advocacy. She has demonstrated a steadfast commitment to addressing critical issues related to human rights, with a particular focus on the Arab region and women’s rights.
She worked as an editor for several Egyptian platforms, including Mada Masr and Al-Manassa, as well as regional platforms such as Raseef22, Daraj, and the International Journalists’ Network. she joined the Egyptian Initiative for Personal Rights as a researcher, focusing on minority rights. Subsequently, she became a researcher at the Cairo 52 Legal Research Institute, where she addressed online gender-based violence. She also contributed to editing articles for the Tahrir Institute for Middle East Policy.
